Trauma Therapy
Many misunderstand trauma to be an event rather than an effect, leading many to believe they've not had anything bad enough to warrant care. For this reason unaddressed traumatic effects are far more prevalent than many people realize, causing symptoms such as sleeplessness, difficulty concentrating, GERD, heart issues, intimacy issues, and many more. PTSD symptoms involving flashbacks and panic can even develop. Identifying and processing past trauma can unlock new hope and potential for a life free from these symptoms.
CPC has clinicians trained in the most effective and up-to-date treatments for trauma, inculding:

-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured eight-phase integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective and efficient for the treatment of trauma and PTSD symptoms. EMDR involves the client focusing briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
-
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) has been shown to be highly effective in helping with PTSD symptom and other trauma effects. CPT works by haveing clients talk and write about their trauma in order to restructure both the unhelpful ways of thinking about what happened to them as well as the unhelpful ways the traumatic event has changed their thinking overall.
-
Brainspotting is a way to help those with trauma by locating points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Through the use of relevant eye positions to bypass conscious thought, Brainspotting is able to help clients locate and process trauma in order to reduce its harmful effects.
